From Student to Storyteller: My Surval Journey

04 February 2025

My Beginnings at Surval…

We became a Surval family back in 2016 when my sister enrolled in the 2016-2017 school year. She had an incredible experience at Surval, with unbelievable trips to Dubai, Morocco, and Japan, alongside remarkable progress in learning French. Her memory-packed travel journals and Highly Commended Student of the Year Award inspired me to join the Surval experience as well. I became a student in the 2019-2020 school year.

My experience was a little different from my sister’s, as halfway through the year, COVID-19 began. Nonetheless, Surval kept its doors open to students, and I remained at school through the first part of quarantine. With cycling, hiking, arts and crafts, culinary classes, camping, and countless other activities, Surval ensured that adventure and fun never stopped. I, too, was honored with the Highly Commended Student of the Year Award and took home memories, friendships, and adventures that would last a lifetime.

My Return to Surval…

Having enjoyed my time at Surval so much, I stayed connected with the school as a Survalienne Ambassador in Mexico. In May 2022, my sister applied as a Surval Summer Camp Staff Member, and I joined her as a Surval Summer Camp Intern.

With extensive experience in photography and content production back home, I took on the role of Camp Photographer, managing content creation for social media platforms and the Survalienne community. I had an amazing time working at summer camp—so much so that I returned the following year.

Why Do I Keep Coming Back?

I continue returning to summer camp and now winter camp for media production and photography because of my deep fondness for the school. Surval always has an essence of adventure and fun, whether you are a student or staff member.

Not only do I enjoy working in content creation, but I also take great pleasure in capturing the girls’ journeys at Survaldiscovering new places, making their first friends, trying new activities, and creating lifelong memories. It is incredibly heartwarming to document the same journey I once experienced myself.
